laws of Reflection

Laws of Reflection

When light travels from one medium to another, not all the light is reflected back from the surface. A part of the light is absorbed by the surface and a part is transmitted into the next medium.
The reduction in the amount of reflected light is called laws of reflection.

Causes of Laws of Reflection

  1. Absorption of light by the reflecting surface

  2. Transmission of light into another medium

  3. Rough or imperfect surfaces

  4. Dirty or dull mirrors

Example

  • A silvered mirror reflects most of the light but still absorbs a small amount → loss of reflection occurs.

  • A glass surface reflects less light because more light.
